OVERVIEW

The Standard is a leading provider of financial products and services, including disability and life insurance, dental and vision insurance, retirement plans services, and individual annuities. Headquartered in Portland, Oregon, the company went public in 1999 and then joined the Meiji Yasuda family of companies in 2016. The company employs approximately 3,100 people and has just over $41B in total assets under administration.


CHALLENGE

At the time Talence Group was engaged, the company was seeking an executive to oversee their Center of Excellence. This center implements Lean initiatives throughout the organization to improve efficiencies and operational capacity. The hire needed to transform and modernize how The Standard did business both internally and externally. This person would be tasked with infusing a Lean mindset throughout the organization.


RESULT

We found a brilliant leader to fill the role. By modernizing and updating the company’s systems, processes, and technologies, this leader has transformed the organization. Specifically, he’s revitalized the customer service framework and interface by coaching executives throughout the company. Working in close collaboration, the hire has trained these executives how to enhance the capabilities of their employees to increase operational excellence. We also helped fill out the hired leader’s team to ensure he had the firepower to bring his vision to fruition.
